Hybrids and electric SUVs have been on the rise in recent years, with nearly 63,000 electric vehicle registrations in 2019. This represents a 71% increase compared to the 36,700 registrations in 2018, and this is in Quebec alone! This sudden increase can be explained by the greater autonomy of newer electric vehicles, but it is also in large part caused by the rebates offered by the government.
With the Government of Quebec's Roulez Vert incentive program, which can offer up to $8,000 in incentives, and the Government of Canada's program, launched on May 1st, 2019, which offers up to $5,000, your bill could drop by $13,000! It is no surprise that more and more people are turning to green vehicles. And let’s not overlook the growing number of charging stations, which make it easier than ever to own an electric car without having to worry about when and where to charge the battery.
In Quebec, more than 2,000 charging stations have been installed, and of these, approximately 450 are 400 V fast-charging stations. If this trend continues, Quebec will easily reach its goal of having at least 100,000 electric vehicles by the end of the year. Moreover, as more and more manufacturers add electric cars to their line-up, consumers continue to have more and more options.
